Treating the Concert-Goer with Tech

As the summer sun grows hotter, music festivals and concerts do as well. Artists and festivals alike want to provide a truly unforgettable experience for concert-goers. To make these exclusive events unforgettable many companies are riding the tech wave of the 21st century and providing concert technology as a means to enhance the experience of the audience. Audiences cram together and clamber over rails to be closer to their favorite artist. There are easier ways to get a more wholesome concert experience without bruising your ribs in the front row and pummeling your ear drums. Tech like LED wristbands and earplugs allow you to feel that connection minus the pain.

A Sea of Controllable LightsScreen_Shot_2014-07-31_at_14_39_00

Glow Motion Technologies works to bridge the gap between audience and artist with their LED wristbands. A full spectrum of color is made available right on the wrist and allows you to wave a light in appreciation without the risk of setting yourself ablaze. However, these accessories are much more than just one color; they can be controlled to make a light show that rivals the one on stage.

Color possibilities and effects are virtually endless through alterations based on proximity, movement, and also through control nodes. Whole sections can be changed to different colors or made to strobe through radio waves. Radio waves allow for the wristbands to be reached with a signal without a direct line of sight; a crucial innovation due to the masses of bodies in a crowd. Along with section targeting for different light patterns artists are also able to light the audience in a wave by traveling across the stage, providing a way to reach out to the whole crowd even if they aren’t in the front row.

Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago is also jumping on the wearable tech bandwagon for their legendary event. They are also choosing the wristband as their technology medium, but the purpose is far different. The Lolla wristband acts as an access pass as well as a credit card. Users can register their credit cards to the wristband and even assign a PIN to ensure the safety of their information. So if you want to get in or grab some grub you just tap the wristband and leave your wallet at home so you don’t have to worry about those pesky pickpockets.

Crisp Sound, Safe Ears

Speaking of things that are pesky, incessant ringing in your ears after a concert can be quite a nuisance. Frequent concert-goers may choose to use ear plugs to protect their ear drums from getting repeatedly beat on like a bass drum, but ear plugs can cause the sound to be muffled. On top of garbled music, the plugs are bulky and awkward.dubs-noise-reducing-earplugs-2-510px

A company named Doppler Labs has invented a solution for this problem with their DUBS ear buds. DUBS work to filter sound through an acoustic filter that gives your ears a clear sound with a lower volume. These plugs make for happy ears and allow you to keep rocking out at concerts time and time again without sacrificing your hearing. Coachella made DUBS their official ear plug earlier this year and Bonnaroo has made a deal with Doppler as well.

As music and concerts have evolved, the tech has followed in this evolution providing a better concert experience for audiences everywhere. Artists and fests alike seem to have just scratched the surface of utilizing technology at concerts. In the coming years we should see some pretty awesome innovations in the industry to make concerts the memories you never forget.
